WOMENWINNING ENDORSES EMILY LARSON FOR MAYOR OF DULUTH
Saint Paul, Minn. – womenwinning, Minnesota’s largest resource for women in politics, is proud to announce its endorsement of Emily Larson for Mayor of Duluth. If elected in 2015, Larson will be the first woman elected to Duluth’s highest office.
“womenwinning first endorsed Emily when she ran for and won the at-large City Council seat in 2011, and we have been proud to partner and support her every step of the way since,” says Lauren Beecham, Executive Director of womenwinning. “Emily has gone above and beyond to work with us to increase the number of women running and winning in Duluth – she truly understands and prioritizes our mission. Emily’s approach and her unifying vision prove she is the most qualified candidate for the job and will move Duluth forward to a promising and strong next chapter of leadership.”
Emily Larson has a rich history of leadership. She is currently President of the Duluth City Council, a Duluth Economic Development Authority Commissioner, and small business owner. She has championed women’s issues while on the city council including paid sick and safe time for families and plans to continue that support as mayor.
“This is going to be a great year for women’s leadership in Duluth. We are inspired to see the support of accomplished leaders like Yvonne Prettner Solon come out in support of Emily. Yvonne’s leadership and depth of knowledge is a tremendous asset to Emily’s campaign, and we cannot wait to see what can happen when women rally around Emily,” says Beecham.
womenwinning’s endorsement comes with significant power. womenwinning has supported 249 candidates since 2011 and 170 of them have won their elections from school board to mayor to U.S. Senate. Just this past year, 53 of 72 endorsed candidates won their races.
womenwinning’s mission is to encourage, promote, support, and elect pro-choice women of all political parties to all levels of public office. womenwinning runs a smart, strategic and targeted political program focused on districts deemed winnable for pro-choice women candidates with the goal of increasing the number of women serving in public office.
Each election cycle womenwinning’s strong wins build upon the success of the womenwinning Statewide Candidate Recruitment & Development Program. womenwinning was established in 1982 by 25 multi-partisan, pro-choice women who wanted to increase the number of women in public office. Thirty-three years later, womenwinning is the largest and most influential statewide women’s PAC in Minnesota having raised millions of dollars and supported thousands of women candidates.
